VEKA or GEALAN: which PVC windows are best for your building
All three systems are German, all three have MACO hardware, and all three carry the same 10-year guarantee. The difference is not in how they are made. It is in how much work the profile has to do. We write this from a workshop where all three are cut — we have no reason to push one of them.

What the centre seal actually does
A conventional window has two seals — one on the sash, one at the glass. The centre seal adds a third line of defence between the sash and the frame, and that is the single biggest difference between GEALAN 74MD and an ordinary five-chamber system.
In practice: less draught on a windy side, better sound insulation, and a dry chamber where condensation does not collect. That is why we offer GEALAN 74MD at the same price as VEKA 70 — you get a sixth chamber and a third seal with no difference in price.
A recommendation by type of building
- A flat in a building with central heating. GEALAN 74MD. You get the most per euro, and the difference against a seven-chamber profile is practically unnoticeable with this kind of heating.
- A house with its own heating. GEALAN 74MD with triple glazing, or VEKA 82MD if the house is heated by electricity or gas — there, every ten per cent or so on the bill comes back.
- New-build and low-energy buildings. VEKA 82MD. Uw as low as 0.76 W/m²K is the level that energy performance certificates ask for in the higher classes.
- An outbuilding, a garage, a holiday house. VEKA 70. There is no reason to pay for insulation that will not be used.
- A noisy street, or close to a railway. Any of the three, but always with acoustic glass — up to 42 dB. Here the system decides less than the glass.
“Experience” — what is worth asking
When people look for experience with VEKA or GEALAN profiles, one question usually sits behind it: is the cheaper system a trap? It is not — but the more expensive one is not automatically the better choice either.
The problem is that the profile decides less than people think. The same VEKA 70 can be a good window or a poor one, depending on the glass, the hardware, the reinforcement, and the installation. That is why “what is the experience with that profile?” leads the wrong way: the profile is one of five items, and not the most expensive.
- Steel reinforcement — whether it is in every profile, in the frame and in the sash. That is what holds the geometry, and quotes are quiet about it.
- The hardware, and the guarantee on it. With us it is MACO on every position, with 10 years or 10,000 openings. The hardware wears out first, not the profile.
- Ug for the glass and Uw for the whole window. Ask for both figures. A good glazed unit in a weak frame does not make a good window.
- Who installs it. The manufacturer, or a subcontractor — that decides whom you call when something sticks.
- Who comes to service it after two years. A ten-year guarantee is worth as much as the company that signs it.
On all three systems we fit the same MACO hardware and the same steel reinforcement, we install with our own teams from the workshop in Pančevo, and the guarantee is the same whichever system you choose.
When seven chambers make no sense
A seven-chamber profile with triple glazing makes sense when the rest of the building envelope is at the same level. If the walls have no insulation and the roof leaks, a window of 197 € will not save the heating bill — the heat will leave through everything else.
In that situation it is better to take GEALAN 74MD and put the difference into the façade. We will tell you that at the measuring visit as well, even though the more expensive option earns us more.
What is the same on all three
- MACO hardware on every position
- Steel reinforcement in the profile
- More than 40 decorative foils
- Production in our own workshop in Pančevo, a lead time of 3–4 weeks
- Installation by our own teams, and a 10-year guarantee
Common questions
Which PVC windows are the best?
There is no single best window for everyone. For a flat in a building with central heating, GEALAN LINEAR 74MD gives the most per euro. For new-build and low-energy buildings, VEKA 82MD does. For outbuildings, VEKA 70 is quite enough.
VEKA or GEALAN — which is better?
GEALAN LINEAR 74MD has six chambers and a centre seal, and with us it costs the same as five-chamber VEKA 70 — at that price it is the better choice. VEKA 82MD sits above both, with seven chambers and triple glazing as standard, and it costs more.
What does a centre seal mean, and can you tell?
It is a third line of sealing between the sash and the frame, alongside the one on the sash and the one at the glass. In practice it means less draught on a windy side, better sound insulation, and a dry chamber where condensation does not collect.
Is MACO hardware good?
We fit it on every position, in all three systems, with a guarantee of 10 years or 10,000 openings. The hardware is the part that wears out first, so the guarantee on it matters more than the guarantee on the profile.
Is VEKA 82MD worth it compared with the less expensive systems?
It is worth it when the rest of the building envelope is at the same level. If the walls have no insulation, a window of 197 € will not improve the heating bill — it is better to take GEALAN 74MD and put the difference into the façade.
Can triple glazing also be fitted to a less expensive system?
Yes. On VEKA 70 and GEALAN 74MD a triple-glazed unit is a surcharge of 26 € per m² of glass, while on VEKA 82MD it is already in the price.
